Success is not final, failure is no fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
Winston Churchill
If someone at some point has told you that all children learn differently, I can say by my own experience it’s entirely true, because my three children are totally different in all aspects including the learning style. When time came to teach them to tie their shoes, my oldest son tried and tried until he succeed, my second son began to try it but we were not doing very well, I remember I had to sit him in my legs so he could see the movements from this perspective because if I was in front of him he did not understand the movements.
When it came the time to teach my youngest son, was a chaos! I think he thought he would learn how to tie his shoes on the first try, but since it wasn’t like, every time I tried to teach him to tie his shoes he became super upset, and sometimes I got upset too. It was time to start schools so when we went to buy his shoes and tennis shoes, I told my husband that both should have laces, i.e. he would learn or would learn, there was no other choice.
The school year started and I continued to tried to teach my son how to tie his shoes. I teach him the first step the one day and wait until him learn well the first step and then go to the next step. One day he surprised me with his laces tied. Then it was time for the lesson so I told him «Do you remember that at first you felt it was very difficult,» my son replied «Yes», then I continued «well at first things are hard but we must be patient and keep trying until we achieve our objective.»
After he learned how to tie his shoes, all my sons were dressing up to go visit their grandparents, then the youngest one asks me: what shoes should I wear?, the chocolate ones with magical zip, I replied, but this time he answered «I want to use the school shoes because I love to tie my shoe laces.» It caused me much grace and reminded me the importance of being patient with our children and never give up.
