Never have more children than you have car windows.
Erma Bombeck
I definitely did not read this in time, because our car has two windows in the back and we have three children – jajajaja. At first no one cared who was sitting next to the windows, but last year when my kids were about 9, 7 and 6 years old, the windows wars started. Worst of all one window got damaged so there was a fight every day.
The smallest of my children is very clever, he let his brothers enter first into the car so that he could always have the window, but the others soon realized and that’s how it all started. For days they fought to see who would take window, the funny thing was that when the youngest was alone in the car he did not want to sit by the window, he rode very peaceful sitting in the center of the car.
After several fights it occurred to me that they should take turns. On Tuesday and Thursday it was the middle’s turn, Wednesday and Friday to the oldest, the youngest had Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays. The clever youngest one took three days, nobody protested again for a while, but then quickly returned to fight as the youngest had more days sitting next to the window than the others.
In the end, they alternated on Sundays, one Sunday for everyone. Same happens with TV controls or who picks the restaurant where we’ll eat or who uses the computer first.
Although it’s not much fun that our children are fighting for everything, at least not for us parents, it is very important that they learn to take turns and learn to share because this is something that will help them interact with each other when they grow up because I’m sure that in a couple of years it will be: who will use the car this Friday?
